KENT HOUSE
Kent House was purchased in February 2005. It is located at 396 Kent Street in downtown Ottawa. It has 5 apartments: two bachelor and three one bedroom. All rent for rates well below market rent. Since receiving an exemption on property taxes, we have lowered the rents slightly for each apartment. Since its purchase in 2005, MHI has laid new flooring in three of the apartments, purchased new refrigerators for three apartments and a new stove for one of them. Significant improvements have also been made to the plumbing and electrical systems in many apartments. MHI is committed to as high a quality of maintenance as the organization can afford.
SOMERSET GARDENS
Somerset Gardens, a new, exciting and innovative housing partnership among the private sector (Teron Inc.), the city of Ottawa, the provincial and federal governments, and Multifaith Housing Initiative opened in December 2007. It is located at 138 Somerset Street West, behind St. John's Church at Somerset and Elgin. This 10-storey building, with 119-one bedroom units, combines home ownership at market prices, assisted home ownership and rental units. MHI owns and operates 10 one bedroom units in Somerset Gardens and offers these as rental units to low-income households..
BLAKE HOUSE
The Multifaith Housing Initiative has purchased a 27 unit apartment block to rescue much needed tenant space in a neighbourhood that is gradually becoming "gentrified." With a capital grant of $840, 000 through the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program to assist with this purchase, the MHI will be able to turn twelve of the large two bedroom units into three and rent them to low-income families who cannot afford to rent in the private market. ![]() |
