by guest blogger Lubna MoutberEvery October, Islamic History Month is an opportunity for Muslims in Canada to celebrate their history, heritage, and community in many different ways across many different cultures. Beyond this, IHM also creates a space for open dialogue, and a place to learn more about our neighbours and friends alike. The Stittsville Muslim Association creates this space annually with their IHM Coffee House, which brings together Muslim families, individuals, neighbors, friends, and all members of the wider Stittsville community for an afternoon of reflection and discussion. This flagship event has been running for 3 years now, and is often a great opportunity for connection, and open to all.
This year, the SMA's keynote speaker will be Sahada Alolo, the Director of Community Engagement at the Multifaith Housing Initiative. Her participation will be a core portion of the evening and will offer attendees an opportunity to hear her perspective and gain some insight into the meaningful work she takes on in our communities. At its heart, Islamic History Month is about bringing people together and celebrating the rich history and achievements of the Islamic community. As things around us continue to change and though opinions diverge, it is a fantastic space for us to talk, have a coffee, and encourage curiosity on all sides of the discussion to create understanding. We look forward to welcoming all to this lively day of genuine connection. Comments are closed.
