Please note: Veterans' House: the Andy Carswell Building, Ottawa is currently owned by Multifaith Housing Initiative. However, we will be transferring ownership of the building to our sister nonprofit, Veterans' House Canada, as soon as possible. Veterans' House Canada is gearing up to build four more homes across Canada for veterans who are homeless/at risk of homeless. MHI will continue to accept donations for the Andy Carswell Building until Veterans' House Canada receives charitable status.
veterans' house: the andy Carswell BuildingVeterans' House: the Andy Carswell Building is Multifaith Housing Initiative's fifth housing community and first house built exclusively for veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This pioneering project specifically targets the needs of the rising number of homeless veterans who are "living rough" in Ottawa, and combines safe housing with essential on-site rehabilitation services.
We have created a unit-style community where each of our 40 homeless or at-risk veterans has immediate access to support services from a variety of partner agencies. This supportive “Housing First” model will give our veterans on-site recovery from health, mental health and addiction-related issues. Not only does the supported housing model improve the overall quality of life but it does so in recognition of crucial and unbreakable experience of military bonds that exist for all in the military community from veterans to their families. Using the former CFB Rockcliffe Airbase lands in Ottawa, the building will comprise three floors of living space, one floor of communal space and a basement for administrative purposes. |
