History of Blake House
In October 2008, MHI purchased Blake House, a 26-unit apartment building in Vanier.
With a federal/provincial grant of $840,000 through the Canada/Ontario Affordable Housing Program to assist with this purchase, MHI was able to turn a number of the large two-bedroom units into three-bedroom units and rent them to low-income families who can’t afford to rent in the private market.
This innovative project is comprised of:
Each unit has access to laundry facilities, parking, meeting rooms, a library, storage for bicycles, a superintendent on site, and a community garden.
The property is located in a quiet neighbourhood, within walking distance to community centres, grocery stores and close to transit, parks, and the St. Laurent Shopping Centre (13 minute bus ride).
