indigenous housing at dream lebreton flats
MHI's newest build, Dream at LeBreton Flats is a two-tower development of 601 units in total – right next to the new library, Ādisōke. MHI will own and operate 133 new affordable units, and within that number, 30 homes are specifically for Indigenous individuals and families.
The statistics are troubling: 32% of people experiencing homelessness identify as Indigenous – and - Indigenous people make up 4% of the population in Ottawa.
MHI’s commitment to the development is $72.6M; MHI’s overall Capital Campaign goal is to raise $1.6M.

Eastern Ontario Outaouais Regional Council (EOORC)
The EOORC Capital Campaign regional goal of $150K is for the 30 units for Indigenous families and individuals. While it is a challenging goal; we have succeeded in the past:
- With a goal of $100,000 for MHI’s The Haven, EOORC donations totaled $117,000, and
- With a goal of $150K for Veterans’ House: the Andy Carswell Building –United We Stand Capital Campaign, EOORC donations totaled over $350,000! (including matching funds from Commissionaires Ottawa)
How to participate
Select a Sunday to host the United We Dream Sunday Service. Rev. Dr. Teresa Burnette-Cole has crafted an Indigenous style of service in support of United We Dream. Congregations are encouraged to use as many or as few of these premade components as they wish, to craft their own service. You may also wish to use the service as a method to raise funds for the Indigenous housing units.
The timing of the Sunday Service is the choice of the minister/congregation. Some ideas are to host the Sunday Service:
We offer a Sunday Service Package as an aid to you and your congregation to learn more about Multifaith Housing Initiative’s housing development Dream at LeBreton Flats. The use of this service for Dream at LeBreton Flats fundraising is at your discretion. We ask that it be used any time between now and June 1st, 2024 - December 31, 2026. Be sure to send the collected donations from your Sunday Service to MHI. You can donate by cash or cheque but include a note stating: What United Church you belong to, and, the campaign you are donating to “Dream LeBreton Capital Campaign – Indigenous Homes.”
Congregation members may wish to make a personal donation to United We Dream online (see how to donate immediately below). Communities of faith may also wish to run fundraisers in their own communities - raising funds in whatever manner they wish to support United We Dream.
