As rents increase and employment opportunities are reduced, the need for affordable housing is increasing every year. Hundreds of families are trying to make do while they wait for housing that is safe and affordable. It can take up to ten years for a family to be offered a subsidized home through the City of Ottawa. That means that, every night about 1,200 people (including 200 families) sleep in shelters because they have no safe place to live.
Multifaith Housing Initiative owns and operates nine properties across Ottawa, providing safe and affordable homes to over 1000 tenants. Our housing communities serve families, seniors, single mothers, adults with cognitive disabilities, individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, and those in need of rent subsidies. MHI's tenth housing community, Odenak will welcome new tenants in 2027.
