What is National Housing Day?
National Housing Day has been recognized across Canada since the early 2000s and takes place every November. It’s a day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of affordable housing and addressing homelessness. Housing advocates and everyday citizens come together to call on local, provincial, and federal governments for meaningful housing change. For MHI, National Housing Day is an opportunity to highlight both Canada’s and Ottawa’s housing crises and advocate for the right to affordable housing.
On Sunday, November 23, 2025, MHI will host its annual National Housing Day event at the Sir John A. Macdonald Building, 144 Wellington Street. This year’s theme, “Communities Building Communities,” reflects MHI’s longstanding mission. The event will include religious prayer, an Indigenous welcome, updates on housing developments from MHI’s Executive Director, and a keynote from an Indigenous speaker on the meaning of home and the value of community.
